Neighborhood.

With the the days being longer, I like to make the most of them by taking walks as often as possible.  Even if it is just a quick wander through the neighborhood.

In the spring and summer I feel like my favorite time of day, dusk, lasts so much longer. In the winter it seems that as soon as the sun begins to fade, it’s night in a matter of minutes. But during these warm months, the sun just hangs out on the edge of the horizon for quite some time.  This is my favorite to to take a walk.  I love how the landscape looks in the setting sun’s golden glow.

I look forward to many more months of walks at dusk.

Flower Explosion

I am always amazed at how quickly winter turns into spring. How one day you see some green poking up through the dirt, and then barely a week later. Flowers everywhere.

This Hummingbird Moth loved the flowers!

And just as quickly as they bloomed, the flowers faded away. Not to be seen again for another year.  I love these flowers that fill the front garden with giant splotches pf color. I just wish the blooms stayed longer.

Cherry Blossoms

Many Streets downtown are lined with cheery trees and for a few weeks each spring, there is a glorious display of light pink cherry blossoms.

These particular trees are right outside my office window at work. I’ve never had a desk near a window before so I was quite overjoyed to be looking at these trees every day. One day they were looking so pretty I had to race right back there after going home to get my camera so I could take some pictures. .

I love walking along the city sidewalks, underneath all the blossoms. I just wish the trees stayed in bloom longer. A few days after I took these photos, some huge storms came through and all the flowers were washed away. I wish flowering trees kept their blooms all summer.

Flower Explosion

One of my favorite things to happen in the spring is the Phlox exploding into bloom.

I can’t believe how much they have grown in the last few years. Now they look like giant pillows made out of flowers.

When we first started dreaming up a garden for the very front of the house, I knew I wanted to have plenty of Phlox draping over the rock wall.

We bought some of every color.

My favorite is this one, called candy stripe, which is sometimes hard to find.

I planted these tulip bulbs last fall, I love how full and plump they look!

I just wish that they bloomed for longer than  couple weeks.
What are some of your favorite flowers to see in the spring?

Early Spring Feeling

Early spring is a funny time of year. You can feel the days trying to get warmer, but winter just doesn’t want to let go, and returns as soon as the sun begins to fade away each evening.

The sky says it is still day, but the long dark shadows cast upon the houses say that night is nearly here.

The warm air that held the promise of spring during the day, has once again been replaced by winter’s cold grasp as the darkness creeps nearer.

The sun paints colors in the sky as the cold night begins to take over.

Time to race home and hope that this was winter’s last appearance.

This March

The gardens began to come back to life as pretty flowers started to poke up through the ground.

We continued to eat healthy veggie meals. It won’t be long before we are eating veggies from our own garden and I can’t wait.
Aldi randomly stocked some sewing machines on the same day I got the desire to start sewing, so I snatched one up and have been working on all kinds of sewing projects.
We picked out this beauty tree for our backyard.
My mom had us over for an Easter brunch and it was a lot of fun. I loved her table decor!
And here is a look at my desk at my new job! I am so happy to finally have the job I dreamed about for years and I still can’t believe I am finally working here. I am a manufacturing lab tech in the regenerative medicine department of a large university and medical school where my job is to grow human cells that will help regenerate damaged tissues or even regrow tissues completely. I am still very much in the learning phase which is pretty exhausting. I have so many new things to learn! But I am so relived that I have found my forever job and no longer have to be constantly updating my resume and looking for new jobs. That had been my life for the past few years and it was so tiring and depressing!

It’s hard to believe that exactly a year ago I was at a job that I hated so much and was suffering some terrible repetitive stress injuries from it (that I’m still recovering from!!) Last March I was not feeling optimistic about life at all and felt trapped. This just shows that a lot can change in a year, and I’m glad it changed for the better.

March was a great month! The weather has warmed up, flowers are blooming, and the future is looking bright. Now we’re on to April, which should be a very exciting month, we have a trip to Washington DC planned!

How was the month of March for you guys?

March is Exciting

March is one of my favorite months.
I love watching the outdoors come back to life after a long cold winter.
Each day the trees have a few more leaves than the day before.
Every day it looks a little different outside.

Green starts to slowly creep over the ground and rise up to the tree tops.
The woods come alive again.

Cherry blossoms begin to bloom, and then cover the ground in a blanket of soft pink petals.

The frequent rain makes the land look so lush and green.
It’s a welcome sight after a cold dark winter.

I love March.

First Flowers

These last two winter months have seemed so long and dark, but finally there is a sign that spring is just around the corner.

Every day I go out and stare at the ground, just hoping to catch a glimpse of the first bulbs poking up through the soil. I was overjoyed to see the tulips I planted last fall start to show themselves last week.

Crocus are always the first to bloom.

The hyacinths are my favorite, I love how their sweet scent fill the whole yard.

Have you seen any spring flowers yet?

The Front Garden in the Spring

These were taken about a month ago when my spring flowers were in full bloom. I didn’t post them then, because my brain was being weird and convinced me I was waiting for something before I posted them. Since I have no idea what  I was supposedly waiting for, here they are!

The Phlox are my favorite, I only wish they bloomed for longer than a couple weeks!

The lawn was also filled with pretty flowers!

This flower garden is only two years old and I can’t believe how much everything has grown! See my post from last year for some before and after shots.

Did you plant any flowers this spring?
